country living

Tb
lately, i've been really stressed out. i came out to the country for a few days of rest, relaxation, and freedom from the carpeted (ugh. it's one of my least favorite things in the world.) apartment that i have grown to loathe. i was really looking forward to hunkering down with my knitting, being surrounded by trees, and serenaded by crickets. i arrive in the country only to find that not only have i forgotten the 2 knitting projects that i had intended to bring, but i have also forgotten the book that i was reading! being in the country with knitting and a good book is one thing, but being in the country with next to nothing to do is practically torture to me. when the knitless get bored, the knitless go shopping. i went antiquing with my mom and scored a blue Fiestaware plate and a Yellowware bowl and then i picked these flats up at Saks last night. so much for escaping the trappings of city life.

it's back to the city today. i can't say that i'm looking forward to it. february marks my cyclical down time, so i'd probably be in a funk no matter where i was. my immediate plan is to engage in a thorough round of pre-spring cleaning, which includes shampooing the aforementioned carpeting, and i feel the urge to throw stuff out. a lot of stuff. if i can get comfortable in my space perhaps there is some hope for me feeling a bit more comfortable in my skin. there is only so much shoe therapy a girl can afford.

If you are going to indulge in shoe therapy, those are GREAT shoes!

Hang in there. It sounds like you need somthing fun and maybe different to shake up the doldrums and bring you around the corner.

When you are throwing stuff out, make sure you keep thinking of a wonderful new thing or two to bring IN! :)

I can relate as can so many of your other knitters. After my three month knitting frenzy, I can't seem to get focused on any project now. I've torn out several items only to start new ones that I know immediately I hate. More often than not, you could find me sitting on the corner of the sofa in the living room (my best knitting place) staring outside at nothing. The sad thing is - it feels like the day after April 15th (yes - I'm in public accounting) when everything comes to screeching halt and I don't know what to do with myself. But cheer up - the moods will lift and I'll have a dozen unfinished projects lying around in assorted containers and I'll move from one to the other - hopefully completing at least one of them. Good luck with your pre-spring cleaning. We've all missed your "stories".

My heart is with you, Shobhana. While I was down last year, your gorgeous sweater made my day bright, it gave me power. Shoe therapy looks good, too. I send you William James's saying; "Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does."

Oh no! So annoying to forget such essential things when you go away.
I hope the spring clean is refreshing for you- and that you manage to make some more shoe space. Love your latest pair!

i can relate on so many levels the shoes the spring cleaning i do mine in january but i still haven't started this year yet but i also hate carpeting and i rip it out of any house i move into first thing if i can. if i can't i cover it up with other carpet that doesn't offend so much. you know what they have now that i love? bamboo area rugs that are like small wood flooring. perfect for a person without big messy dogs like yourself! i saw one at lowes and am hoping to put it on the floor of my enclosed front porch if i ever finish enclosing it! good luck with the doldrums.
